Vengeance is Mine is a title that screams “read me” from the array of books on a shelf, and the image of a flaming gun on the cover seals it. I had never heard of the author Harry James Krebs before picking up this book, but a good title, a compelling cover image and exciting blurb made me want to read this book. I can honestly say that I wasn’t disappointed (except that I wanted to continue reading once I had turned the final page).
Vengeance Is Mine, by Harry James Krebs, is the first book in the Benjamin Tucker Mystery Series (and I hope the series does continue as the book was written in 2014 and I haven’t seen a follow up yet).
Benjamin Tucker is an ex-investigative reporter and successful bestselling true crime author. Due to a very traumatic event in his teenage years he also has a passion for being an amateur detective, helping the police solve brutal crimes in Holly Springs, North Carolina. Seventeen years after the event that saw his girlfriend murdered and beheaded, a series of decapitated female victims start to emerge in neighbouring communities, and he is ultimately drawn into the investigation and the hunt for a psychotic serial killer.
As the investigations continues and the hunt for deranged murderer continues, in a bizarre twist of events the unknown serial killer turns his attentions to Benjamin. The killer becomes obsessed with Benjamin and starts stalking him and presenting him with some unimaginable, grotesque gifts.
But what are the killer’s motives, and can Benjamin protect his family and himself, and stay alive when the killer focuses in on him?
Overall, Vengeance is Mine is an excellent, well-written thriller that will have your hands glued to the book until the final pages. It is a breath-taking, pulse-pounding read.
With an excellent mix of characters that come alive within the pages mixed with a sadistic plot of revenge and gruesome murder, it is a story that will thrill and excite, leaving you wanting more and more.
Harry James Krebs has written a very exciting and exhilarating crime novel featuring a very brutal and gruesome serial killer. It features a dangerous killer, quirky police officers, an amateur detective that seems overly obsessed with his dog, romance and even a bit of humour thrown in to release some of the tension of the murders.
From page one right up to the final pages, the book is filled with absorbing, engaging and thrilling excitement. It really is a novel that keeps the reader immersed in the story.
If you like a good (but brutal) crime thriller I can highly recommend Vengeance Is Mine. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
