Stephen King, born in September 1947 in Portland, Maine, USA, is an American author writing horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, crime, science-fiction, and fantasy novels. His books have sold in excess of 350 million copies worldwide with many being adapted into films, television series, miniseries, and comic books. He was written over 60 fiction novels and 5 non-fiction books.
He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1970, with a B.A. in English and qualified to teach at high school level. He taught English classes at the Hampden Academy in Maine for a couple of years before quitting when his novel, Carrie, was accepted for publication – this was his fourth novel but the first to be accepted for publication.
Among many awards for his writing, he has received the Bram Stoker Award, the World Fantasy Award, and the British Fantasy Society Award.
Stephen lives in Maine and Florida with his wife, novelist Tabitha King.
