Princess

Princess of FireFighter?
Don’t settle for being just one thing, as this little girl finds out!

Princess or firefighter? That’s a hard choice. Do you have to be one or the other? Can’t you be both, or neither? Maybe you rather be a police officer or road sweeper, housewife or mechanic? There are lots of choices for a profession, and it doesn’t matter what gender you are, you can be anything you choose to be with some hard work and determination, even a princess that puts out fires or a housewife that repairs cars. In Can a Princess Be a Firefighter? by Carole P. Roman two little girls are going to find out that there are not stereotypical roles you have to fit into.

Carole P. Roman is a prolific award-winning children’s author with books like the Captain No Beard series and the If You Were Me and Lived In… series. Can a Princess Be a Firefighter? is motivated by her granddaughter’s fascination with all things ‘princess’, so she wrote this book to show her all the wonderful possibilities waiting ahead for her.

Can a Princess Be a Firefighter? is book #1 in the Bedtime Dream Collection and is a picture book aimed at children aged 5 to 8 years old. It is a beautiful tale about two little girls who are obsessed with being a princess but want to know if they can be other things as well. They question their father about different professions, asking would they have to be one or the other, a princess or a firefighter? The story goes on to explain to them that they can be both, or any other profession they choose, the choices are endless and why stick to one; why not be a princess who also fights fires, or practices law, or heals the sick etc…

“Don’t let anybody limit your dreams”

This book is an excellent read with a very powerful message about stereotypes and choosing your own path. Your gender does not decide what job you can do and just because you have an interest in one thing (princesses) doesn’t mean you can’t also have an interest in other things (firefighting). There is a line in the book that gets across the message perfectly to its young readers, “Don’t let anybody limit your dreams”.

Can a Princess Be a Firefighter? is a charming little book that perfectly explains that you can be anything you want to be, don’t limit your choices, always have options and you are always free to change your mind. You don’t have to be a princess or a firefighter, you can be both or something else entirely!

To accompany the very powerful message in the words of this story are some beautiful illustrations. It has been illustrated beautifully using pastel colours by Mateya Arkova.

This is an excellent, well-written, charming story with an excellent message, for boys and girls, and would make an excellent addition to any child’s book collection or school library.

Never limit your choices, work hard and with love, support and determination you to might find yourself as a firefighting princess, if that is what you really want to be!
