Passion, Power & Sin: A Novel is one such series and is one story told over five individual books. It is a crime thriller – a story of money, greed, internet scams, revenge and love, and a series that I thoroughly enjoyed.
The story starts aboard a €300 million super yacht owned by a reclusive Venezuelan billionaire, Ricardo Mayo. A luxury yacht that is packed with state-of-the-art equipment, just pure decadence. But this yacht is the also the scene of a €353 million internet scam, one committed by the solitary billionaire.
24-year-old PR assistant Heather Bancroft is one of many innocent people caught up in his scam. She is daring and impulsive and when she starts receiving strange emails predicting the outcomes of things she can bet on, she unfortunately takes the bait. She is very convinced by the emails and acts on them. Like all good scams, these bets start to pay off so she starts to gamble even more money in the hope that she can save her mother’s house from foreclosure. But as with all scams there is only every going to be one winner, the scammer. She eventually loses her entire life savings as well as her childhood home.
Faced with big loses she wants her money back and is determined to get it. She follows the money trail around the world to Japan where she deals with the Yakuza, then on to Kyrgyztan for a sports event (where she meets the love of her life Gareth, although she is already engaged to David) and then onto Istanbul, New York and Greece. But whilst she is recovering her money, greed rears its ugly head, and she loses it all again. Now she is in real trouble and ends up in debt, owing money to dangerous and unscrupulous loan sharks. She has quit her job in spectacular fashion, dumped her boyfriend, lost her mother and has nothing left, she now wants revenge!
She sets off yet again, desperate to find out who is responsible for the scam. Her travels take her through Europe (Spain, Germany and France) until she finds her man. Armed with a new name, new passport and new look, she embarks on a dangerous journey to get back her money – but will she be successful again?
Overall, Mike Wells’ Passion, Power & Sin is a compelling and exciting story, spread out over a five book series (you can purchase them individually or as a collection). It has an excellent plot and some great characters. It is a story that is brought to life at a very good pace throughout the pages, keeping you gripped from beginning to end. These are a very well-written series of books where the fast pace just doesn’t release its grip from the first pages of book one to the final pages of book five. It is a crime thriller that is filled with twists and turns, all that grab your attention and keep you reading – once you start, you just won’t be able to stop!
