Bears Don’t Eat Egg Sandwiches by Julie Fulton Review

Egg Sandwiches

Bears Don’t Eat Egg Sandwiches is the latest picture book from Maverick Books. It has been written Julie Fulton, the writer and creator of the ‘Ever So’ children’s series of rhyming picture books and beautifully illustrated by Rachel Suzanne.

In Bears Don’t Eat Egg Sandwiches we see a little boy called Jack sitting down for lunch with his favourite food; egg sandwiches. As he sits down to eat he is interrupted by a knock at the door and upon answering he finds a grizzly bear looking for lunch, except the bear wants something far more interesting and substantial than egg sandwiches. Jack offers the bear several egg sandwiches, but he is insistent that “bears don’t eat egg sandwiches!”. The irritated bear asks for a big plate and a big spoon. But what is the bear going to eat for lunch? You’ll just have to read the book to find out!

Overall, Bears Don’t Eat Egg Sandwiches is a fantastic story. It is a simple, yet effective story about a very courteous and polite boy who tries to share his lunch with a very grumpy and hungry bear. It has been superbly written by Julie Fulton. The illustrations are great and portray what is happening in the story extremely well, very well drawn and very colourful.

I read the story with 5-year-old twin boys and since it arrived, it has been read by the twins at least once a day and they have memorised the entire book (so a very big hit with them).

A fun and entertaining story that makes good reading and the illustrations are excellent.
